Relatives Visa for Immigration to South Africa
A relatives visa is issued to a foreigner who has a first-kin or second-kind relative that is either a permanent resident or a South African citizen residing in the Republic. First-kin and second-kin family relates to spouses or life partners, children, parents, siblings, grandchildren and grandparents.
A relatives visa can be applied for under temporary and permanent residence categories. Applications for permanent residency can only be undertaken by first-kin family members.
Please note that if issued, a relatives visa does not allow the holder to work or set up a business in the Republic.
If you intend to stay for more than 6 months, we advise that you look at applying for temporary residence. A temporary residency visa will ensure that you continue to reside in South Africa legally. Permanent residence applications are currently taking up to 24 months to be finalised.
